On the morning of October 16, School of Urban Railway Transportation invited Dr. Zhou Jiajun from Tongji University to give an academic lecture on the theory of large slip wheel rail adhesion and brake application at the Modern Transportation Engineering Center. Professor Sheng Xiaozhen, Teachers Yu Chaogang, Shi Wei, Zhu Wenliang, and some related graduate students from Vehicle Engineering Department attended the conference.

The meeting was divided into two parts. Firstly, Dr. Zhou Jiajun gave a presentation on relevant academic topics to everyone. He discovered and verified the mechanism of improving wheel rail adhesion under water medium conditions through a walking wheel rail adhesion test bench and a high-speed wheel rail adhesion simulation test bench. This research achievement breaks through the existing thinking framework of adhesive utilization, shifting from passive adhesive utilization to active adhesive improvement control. It is of great significance for improving train braking performance, optimizing the design of anti slip criteria, and ensuring vehicle operation safety. After more than two hours of reporting, Dr. Zhou provided a detailed introduction to his research findings through extensive references. Based on the theory of mixed lubrication wheel contact, he constructed a wheel rail contact model considering solid-liquid coupling heat transfer, established the intrinsic relationship between the loss of the third medium on the rail surface and the large sliding effect of the wheel, quantitatively described the wheel rail adhesion and its variation law, and enriched and expanded the existing wheel rail adhesion theory. Then Dr. Zhou Jiajun provided detailed explanations to the questions raised by everyone during his discussions and research with teachers and students.

This report not only broadened the perspectives of the participants, but also sparked in-depth discussions and reflections on this issue. Through this report meeting, students gained a deeper understanding and insight into the adhesion between large sliding wheels and rails, inspiring their enthusiasm for innovation. Finally, the meeting was successfully concluded with enthusiastic applause from the students.
