Students in School of Urban Railway Transportation Won the First Prize of the 16th National Structural Design Competition for College Students again

On October 29, the 16th Beitou Cup National College Student Structural Design Competition held by the National College Student Structural Design Competition Committee came to a successful end in Changsha University of Science and Technology. A total of 119 teams from 118 universities, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, participated in the three-day competition. Guided by Yan Xilin, a teacher from the School of Urban Railway Transportation, and composed of Zhuo Shengxian, Chen Lei and Cheng Hanyu, the team of Shanghai University of Engineering Science stood out for its innovative design scheme and superb model making level, reigning national first prize. Meanwhile, Shanghai University of Engineering Science won the Excellent Organization Award of 2023 National College Student Structural Design Competition.

The National College Student Structural Design Competition is one of the funding projects of the national 9 discipline competitions jointly approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for the first time. The competition is co-sponsored by the Engineering Education Committee of the Chinese Society of Higher Education, the Professional Steering Committee of Civil Engineering Discipline of colleges and universities, the Education Work Committee of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, and the Department of Environment and Civil Water Conservancy of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education. This competition follows the 3C principles of creativity, collaboration, and construction, as well as the competition principles of fairness, impartiality, and openness. The competition philosophy is to showcase talent, enhance abilities, cultivate collaboration, and enjoy the process. According to statistics, this year's provincial (municipal) college student structural design competition secretariat organized a total of 581 colleges and universities, 1463 teams participated.

This competition takes the bridge bearing the moving load and impact load as the object. By adding some undetermined parameters and adding on-site design links, our work adopts a new type of hybrid structure with the main structure as the tensioning string and the auxiliary structure as the truss. 117 components are made in a continuous 16 hours. On the basis of the high stability and reliability of the structure, the mass of the model has reached a lightweight, only 136.17g.

This award is not only the results of the teaching and scientific research work of the School of Urban Railway Transportation, but also an affirmation and demonstration of the comprehensive quality training of students in our school. In the field of structural design, the school will continue to rely on the advantages of civil engineering disciplines, and continue to train high-quality applied civil engineering talents with innovative consciousness and engineering practice ability for the country.
