School of Urban Railway Transportation Held the International Exchange Salon Activity for Teachers and Students

On the afternoon of April 10th, School of Urban Railway Transportation held the Expand international vision, cultivate family feelings —international exchange salon activity for teachers and students in the Modern Transportation Building. The event was held in a combination of online and offline ways, attracting more than 20 teachers and students to participate.

Six teachers and students with overseas backgrounds shared their overseas study or visiting experience. First of all, Professor Wang Lei, Vice Dean of School of Urban Railway Transportation, shared his experience of studying abroad in Australia during the pandemic. He pointed out that young teachers and college students must go out and take a look, to expand their international perspective and improve their level. They should face difficulties and changes with a learning and thinking attitude, and face teaching and research with an insatiable attitude.

Teacher Zhong Shuoqiao was once supported by the National Education Foundation and completed a one-year joint doctoral training program in Spain. Regarding how to take personal safety precautions, Teacher Zhong shared his experiences during his study abroad. In addition, Teacher Zhong suggests making full use of various ways to learn about multiculturalism while abroad, such as participating in school-organized travel clubs and learning a third language with international students.

Teacher Wen Yongpeng shared in detail the life experiences of visiting students in the United States from various aspects such as clothing, food, housing, transportation, communication, banking, and medical care. He emphasized the academic culture of the United States, pointed out the cultural differences between China and the United States, and called on young people returning from studying abroad to focus on national affairs, shoulder national responsibilities, promote Chinese culture, and strive to set an example in strengthening cultural confidence and telling Chinese stories well.

Teacher Meng Xiaoliang shared some experiences on life and research during his study abroad in Hong Kong. Teacher Meng highly praised the international exchange salon activity between teachers and students. On the one hand, it can enhance mutual understanding among colleagues. On the other hand, for students preparing for overseas exchanges or further studies, this activity can help them understand some of the overseas study and life situations in advance, and reduce the impact of their early life or study habits on their studies.

Teacher Chen Wenjie shared his experiences of studying in the United States and summarized the following four insights: Firstly, never forget your original intention. Life abroad is often very colorful, but don't forget your original ideals; Secondly, a gentleman should be cautious and independent. In completely unfamiliar environments, their mentality and pressure will be troubled by various sources. They should be kind to others, self-disciplined, and have a clear understanding of right and wrong; Thirdly, there is national sentiment. Going abroad allows one to have a deeper understanding of the strength of the motherland and the vast Chinese culture. In the end, every difficulty encountered in studying abroad is a unique experience and valuable wealth. We value material possessions over spiritual pursuits because perhaps only knowledge and experience can truly be taken away.

Senior student Li Zejun, who graduated from the Railway Engineering program in 2017, shared his experience of participating in the credit mutual recognition program at the German University of Applied Technology in 2019. Li Zejun shared overseas exchanges from five aspects: early preparation, language learning, overview and teaching methods of German universities, daily life, and cultural differences.

It is reported that this international exchange salon activity for teachers and students is one of the promotional activities organized by the college for overseas learning and exchange projects for teachers and students. Previously, the college organized an overseas exchange online questionnaire survey activity for all students; On February 27th, the college also successfully held a presentation on the 2023 student overseas learning exchange program. In the future, the college will also carry out a series of promotional activities for overseas learning programs for students.
